The Scotsman - 'Noble, sympathetic and celebratory'

Observer Music Monthly - 'Not just a dignified salute to an absent friend but a cracking album in its own right' ****

The Guardian - 'A passionate rock album that honours the past, yet is very much of the present' ****

This is breaking my heart, I'm in Kent at a friend's house after leaving a salesmenship that acted like a Mafia, I've got 13 pounds left in cash, no credit card and have a flight back home for Thursday. I'll never get that special edition now, will I? :'( *drowns in self pity*

I know it's a bit cliché to say it's their best album since Everything Must Go, since Send Away Tigers was already their best album since Everything Must Go but... Journal For Plague Lovers is their best album since Everything Must Go. It just proves the Manics are on a high. It's brave. It's uncompromised, it sounds very different from Send Away The Tigers but has the same "we're the Manic Street Preachers" thing going on. It sounds generous, free, stripped from all the stuff that made This Is My Truth, Know Your Enemy and Lifeblood slightly less good records (even though I love them as well). It's incredible. I got the 2 CD version I was even surprised to find it in France to start with, can't stop listening to Plague Lovers and Jackie Collins. Closing the album with Nicky sounding like Lou Reed circa Transformer is such a great idea. It's not a safe return to the past. It's a celebration of life, Richey's words are alive, the Manic Street Preacher

It's such a joy to hear more wise and inquisitive words from Richey, and a few laughs too, who'da thunk it?...:) The album is a complete musical joy and the perfect platform for such a unique lyricist.

Fantastic, can't get enough of listening to the album. I got mine from one of the big CD store outlets in Auckland, New Zealand. This is the first time they have ever had a Manic's album on sale there! Hope you guys get to visit New Zealand for a concert one day soon.

SUPERB ALBUM WELL WORTH THE WAIT

Until the 18th February, Generation Terrorists was by a long chalk my favourite album, but after listening to Journal For Plague Lovers I am afraid it has been relegated to second place! In my opinion there is not a bad or weak track on this album and deserves the 5* given to it by Q.

Hailed by some as the follow up to the dark "Holy Bible", Journal For Plague Lovers truly stands out on its own by having everything a 5 star album needs; tracks that will make you smile in "Me and Stephen Hawking" to a "punchy punk" number in "Peeled Apples" and a moving track that will bring a lump to your throat (maybe even shed a tear or two) with "William's Last Words". I was surprised however, to find that the hidden track "Bag Lady" was not on the double issue but the demos on the second cd makes the double issue a must to buy and it gives me an excuse to purchase the single cd edition!!!

Went to the gig at Llandudno which was awesome! No need for James to apologise for playing all of Journal... it was breathtaking and what we wanted to hear. JDB put everything in it as usual and seemed to find an extra gear to help Nicky out. Great experience to see the boys play on home soil. Come back to Manchester soon boys!

Journal For Plague Lovers is a landmark album for Manic Street Preachers.
The songs are very similar to The Holy Bible, wielding a much different sound from Send Away The Tigers.
The lyrics are not as dark as those of THB, but they definitely have a very shocking element to them, (for instance, Me And Stephen Hawking).
All in all, it's safe to say that this album can rock like fucknuts if it wants to.

Firstly I feel that there has to be some clarification made about 'Journal For Plague Lovers' for all that has been bandied around about the album it isn't The Holy Bible Part II and to come into this album thinking that will leave you feeling maybe a little short changed; that being said, 'Journal For Plague Lovers' certainly bears striking resemblances to the Manics Street Preachers high-point album only now they have aged and matured not only as people but as musicians allowing them to apply a more deft and structured musical discipline to the words of one Mr Richard Edwards.

Ah yes, Richey Edwards the enigma that enveloped the early incarnation of the Manics and has silently hovered over them ever since no doubt watching from somewhere (above, below, in-between?) as they received acclaim and reached heights that would have no doubt seen Edwards relish in the opportunity to outrage at the highest public level, whilst also struggling to match the staggering beauty and undoubted br

It must be said that this offering of songs would be everything the world needed to realise 10 years ago. What a joy to have the whole band back together and what joy to listen to them as a Welshman under the stars of Australia.

Read the David Cheal review in the Telegraph - "ambition outstrips ability" are his words. Perhaps he should go and read the George Bernard Shaw quote on the back of the inlay.

Brilliant album - really back to their very best
