Dear Manics: I'm from Chile and as you must know my country is suffering the worst natural disaster of our history. I'm just writing you to tell how relevant is that bands like you with a social interest keep spreading the word in the world about how important is being more conscient of nature and as Roger Waters from Pink Floyd said (in a letter he sent to my country) it's very urgent to create a global trust fund for natural disasters specially for countries that really needs monetary support like Haiti. We often hear celebrities sending good vibes to countries that suffered disasters but that's it, obviously you could never imagine how hard it is until you actually live it. I wish nobody has to live something like this never, but we have to be prepared always and I'm writing you because as I'm a big fan of yours, I know how interested you are and have being in politics and that stuff and if you keep sending this kind of message sooner or later it going to help like putting your t

for letting us know. Signed petition as it seems an important one for the beeb to be aware of & I think I've actually listened ot its programmes over the internet. Much as one moans about the BBC it is good to have a completely public service broadcast - I think we're one of the only countries in the world to have one. Also Radio 1 was where I first heard the Manics back in 1993.

This station is the only bit of the BBC that showcases unsigned bands and is exclusively an eclectic mix of old skool and current alternative sounds. One of last year's highlights was a discussion about late 80s/early 90s indie rock between James Dean Bradfield and Steve Lamacq. They sounded like two good friends in a pub.

Apparently, the BBC Director General is open to a rethink. The petition below has 49, 113 signatures so far.

Manics aren't even my favourite band - (how can they be when Massive Attack will always be there for us) but have a grudging respect for them & James I know you've worked with Del Naj. Heligoland rules ...
