Nice review Protex Horses. I liked the music on 'Peeled Apples' though, dunno if that makes me uncool or not. :)

in the chorus to marlon j.d. it sounds as if he is singing "saucy, saucy, marlon j.d." (not "so say, so say...") in a kind of camp, 'carry on' films way. now all i can sing is "saucy, saucy" each time!

got my signed version today...at last...was beginning to worry. thought for a second the signatures were printed and was about to rant then realised the ink shows through on the reverse side of the page...so calmed down then. the quality of these demos is fantastic. i was expecting raw, difficult to hear vocals as seems to be the norm with some 'demo' versions, but these are great. nice to hear these stripped down versions. cheers.

Great musical accompaniment to Riche's lyrics.
Its as though no time has elapsed at all and everything is new.

A truely gripping album. The fuss over the cover is worth further pursuit. If you really want to express your anger, outrage, dismay, and have fun at the same time, why not buy the t-shirt (presumably available from the forthcoming gigs) and take a walk around your nearest Tesco. I'm not suggesting you buy anything from them, they don't need the money, but see if you can offend someone.

Richie's lyrics on 'Peeled Apples' are outstanding but the music confuses me - rock on a post punk sounding record but the Manics music has confused me in the past and I end up loving it.

Can't wait till the Roundhouse.

It's not out for another week here in Canada :( This is torture!!!!! I just spent nearly the entire long weekend attached to my computer listening online and I'm deeply in love. No one's smuggled a few physical copies over here yet, have they? ;)

A brief, and very subjective, review of the deluxe edition of the record.

Listening to this record, and looking at Richey's lyrics and art work, is like seeing a scrapbook and feeling old feelings again, but from the vantage point of years, a 'Holy Bible' viewed from a distance. 'Facing Page..' and 'All is Vanity' make me long for winter (was 'Holy Bible' released in the summer as well? How gloriously inappropriate!) But this 'This Joke Sport..' and especially, as it's title suggests, 'Doors Closing Slowly' sond like coda to an era.

'Peeled Apples' still sounds a bit uncool to me but it may grow on me and isn't this what theManics have always done, make the uncool very cool indeed. And 'V.S.E.C' is fantastically groovy, threatening to dissolve into 'Outdoor Miner' by the other Wire.

No hidden track with the deluxe issue but it's worth buying the regular record as well because this issue is a wonderful thing. A very beautiful and comforting record.

Brilliant album boys - sure Richey would love it - so glad you didn't bury it Nicky! xx

ok i emailed townshend records today and all signatures are authentic and not copies... you can kind of tell when you turn the page over and let the light pass through the page, as for bag lady its only on the standard issue cd, me thinks the record company buggered up burning the discs and missed out the song... amateurs... that just leaves me with one problem; the cover came ripped.... do i dare send it back?
