The seventh album released by the Manics, only charting at #13 in the UK albums chart - their lowest since Generation Terrorists. In a departure from their rock roots, Lifeblood features a softer and more melodic sound, based around synthesizers and keyboards - akin to single There By The Grace Of God from the Forever Delayed compilation - something Nicky Wire referred to as "elegaic pop" during the recording process. Though the album can be percieved as a commercial failure, only staying in the top 75 of the album charts for two weeks, its two singles - The Love Of Richard Nixon and Empty Souls, both fared considerably well on the UK singles charts, both reaching #2.
